Civics fall to BW, but look to BA
October 2010:
CIVICS has another challenging encounter against Black Africa this weekend, after their shock 1-0 defeat to Blue Waters away at the weekend. The defeat also sent the side downward into sixth position on the MTC Premiership log standings and now it is up to the players to push their game into another gear against a robust Black Africa outfit.
This mouth-watering encounter is set for the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday night, kicking off at 20h00.
Civics suffered their second defeat of the season through a lone goal in the Blue Waters match, leaving them stuck on seven points from five matches and two wins.
This weekend, the encounter against Black Africa which is ranked third on the log will even be more challenging, as the opposition won its game against Eleven Arrows also through a lone goal in Windhoek. Black Africa, has nine points from their three wins after five matches. With most teams having five games under their belt, Civics must pick up its pace to move within the top three at least before the first round of matches come to an end.
The match this weekend will prove a turning point to achieve this, while further matches against some credible opponents before the Christmas break, will even make the ambition to get there more intriguing.
Civics has conceded the same number of goals they have scored (5) and the goals might just be pouring from both sides at the weekend, as both teams have highly industrious midfielders and unpredictable and rather opportunistic strikers.
It will be a tactical and technical battle for the two sides as both coaches Ali Akan and Ricardo Mannetti were in charge of the same players in their previous jobs.
Mannetti moved to Black Africa from Civics two seasons ago, while Akan also had a stint with Black Africa in his illustrious coaching career. Some of the players from both sides have gone though the hands of both coaches and they will know what to expect from them.
The players have squared-up against each other before and will look to their respective coaches to give them some directions in order to adapt to the methods that will be employed by either opponents.
The match is expected to be a humdinger for both players and spectators in terms of skill and entertainment, while the technical staff will have to find a way how to deal with their nerves until the final whistle.
