Civics denies Stars a win
Civics further dented the reputation of defending champions African Stars when they came out 2-1 victors in a midweek clash played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Striker Costa Khaiseb was the first on target after a dull 0-all draw at half time, while new signing Tjono Jagger netted the second one to move the Civilians to sixth spot on the MTC Premiership log.
Civics now has 13 points from their four wins out of nine matches, while they have also lost four.
Stars slumped to ninth spot and has so far lost three matches which now only puts them at ten points from only two wins out of nine matches.
The elevation on the log is a good sign for Civics head coach Ali Akan who earlier also had a sigh of relief after Civics beat Tigers 1-0 about a week ago.
That lone goal came via the boot of Lindon AAseb who came on a substitute despite nursing an injury he picked at training earlier.
In fact, the good fortune for Civics came despite a host of injuries to the players in recent matches.
Against Stars, Civics turned up the heat in the second half with persistent runs into the box of the opposition by Khaiseb, while Heini Isaacs kept the engine room hot as usual, leaving the Stars midfield in pieces.
The Civics defense was as solid as a rock as new signing Duncan Subeb once again put in a superb performance, assisted by former Eleven Arrows man Bobby Kaapama who put his body on the line.
Civics next face Ramblers in a derby match next Wednesday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
