A fine volley by Floris Diergaardt gave Civics a 1-0 victory over Tigers at the Khomasdal Stadium on Saturday.
The goal came after only ten minutes, with Diergaardt pouncing onto a corner by Sedekia Haukambe to volley it into the net.
It was a clinical finish, but Tigers' strikers couldn't say the same. Between Tangeni Shipahu, Gregory Horaeb, Wesley Kinda and Gerson Geiseb, they missed at least five clear chances. Tigers had the most possession but Civics' defence held out. Midway through the first half they nearly got a penalty, but the referee judged that Mentos Hipondoka's tackle by Neville Nanub was just outside the box.
Gregory Horaeb and Lubigia Lubigisa came close for Tigers towards the end of the half, while a quick counter attack by Victor Helu was just saved by Tigers keeper Fox Nambundunga.
Diergaardt came close to scoring early in the second half when a shot whistled past the upright and then brought out the best in Nambundunga who dived full length to punch a freekick clear. Tigers' woes in front of goal continued as Horaeb, Shipahu and Kinda all missed chances.
