Visit of Dietmar Pegam to Namibia

February 2011:
Buschschule Civics Football Club recently hosted the director of the Soccer Academy of Austrian Premier League Club Sturm Graz in Windhoek, Namibia.

Purpose of Visit

Dietmar Pegam visits Namibia to familiarise himself with the infrastructural developments on the anticipated youth development project, that has been set in motion by Buschschule Civics FC.
Pegam will visit the Concordia College (a Windhoek-based high school) where Buschschule Civics in partnership with SASA are set to construct a football academy that will also include accommodation and conference facilities.
He will assess the current training field conditions and will also attend a few matches that will include a Namibia Premier League (NPL) match between Civics and Blue Boys on February 12 at the Independence Stadium. He will also attend training sessions of different youth football teams.

Background

The project, which will mainly focus on developing young talented footballers will be based at the Concordia College and is a concept that emanated between the first scientifically based Southern Africa Soccer Academy (SASA) and Buschschule Civics FC. SASA is a brainchild of European-based individuals who have interests in youth football development in Africa and they are currently partnered by Unger Steel, an Austrian steel company as well as the University of Applied Sciences, FH Joanneum, also based in Austria, as well as Buschschule Civics FC. Sturm Graz, a leading Premier League club in Austria has so far been identified as a possible partner and the duty of Pegam will be to assess the playing and training conditions in Namibia for the proposed academy and he will also be introduced to a snap overview of Namibian football in general. The idea is to turn young and talented footballers from Namibia into fully fledged professionals by linking them up with top European-based clubs. Buschschule Civics, which is consistently striving for professionalism in their structures, in principle agreed with SASA, to set up a base in Namibia for the training and development of young and talented footballers in the region for greater heights. The academy once constructed will also cater for the educational needs of the players while they are involved in football.
