Brendell, Khaiseb strike for Civics
CIVICS veteran midfielder Brian Brendell blasted a the opening goal past Eleven Arrows goalkeeper Virgil Vries, before striker Costa Khaiseb converted a spot kick to give the side a 2-1 win over the weekend.
It was the second successive victory for Civics, as they too are gunning for the N$1 million prize-tag for the winners of the MTC Premiership this season.
Brendell drove the ball home just outside the Arrows penalty box for the first goal of the match that took place at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
Despite Arrows equalizing through a confusion by goalie Esau 'Pitso' Tjiuoro and the defensive stalwart, Bobby Kaapama, Civics were the last to laugh trough a penalty by Khaiseb.
Khaiseb cooly converted to ensure victory for the side that possess a large number of youngsters with only a handful of veterans after most of them were released this season.
The poorly attended match produce periodic sparks as both teams held on well defensively, while the midfielders did most of the hard-runs in the middle of the park as they looked for opportunities.
With the win, Civics now moved up to third spot with seven points alongside Blue Waters in second and Oshakati City in fourth.
A slow start to the season saw Ali Akan's men picking up their first three points against Blue Boys the previous weekend, after recording a draw and a loss in their first two encounters.
Leading the charts is Ramblers with three points clear after beating Tigers 1-0 in a midweek encounter.
